These are art projects that we would love to see and would be willing to support.
Free and cheap art allows us to divert more resources towards other projects but we also want to pay people for art that they have invested time and energy into especially if it is how they make their living.
If you have art you have already made and want to talk about reimbursement definitely reach out to us.
If you want to co a commissioned project for us we would like to see a proposal to get an idea of your vision, your style, and discuss expectations and price.
Utopian art
We would love to see art showing what people imagine a perfect world being. Utopian cityscapes, utopian nature scapes tying in the society that has allowed that to come to be.
Especially art that makes people think about how we might get there or the steps needed to create it.
Dystopian art
On our current trajectory we are headed toward extinction level climate change.
Humans have a hard time imagining something that is not in front of them and words often do not convey the urgency or seriousness of a situation. Unless someone is willing to read a book.
Another issue is that dystopian art often glorifies the situation. Heros in steam punk outfits wearing cool masks with crazy hand built cars. This creates a good feeling. Our imagining ourselves as those heroes beating the odds.
What we don’t see much of is using the medium of art to convey the pain, suffering, death, and sadness a real dystopia would bring. We believe using art to convey what is coming on our current trajectory could help people see it before it is here. To feel it before it happens. To want to act to change it before it’s upon us.
On our current trajectory hundreds of millions of people are likely to die of starvation, heat, displacement, and other issues. Not to mention plants and animals.
Some areas will become unlivable. This will cause many to rush to more habitable areas that cannot support them. Lack of food, housing, and resources with an influx of people with no food or resources will mean extreme levels of homelessness, poverty, starvation, and with that will also bring crime and increasing jealousy of the haves by a growing number of have nots.
We want to create art that paints this picture and hopefully inspires people to take serious action to try to change our course.
Many hands make light work
A big part of our model is the idea of being supported by the people to work for the people and to not be beholden to big money or corporations because we are funded by and answer to the people. To accomplish this we need to call on many hands to make the work light for each. We would love to get more art that convey this message and would inspire the people to join the movement. The concept many hands make light work paints this picture well. I am also reminded of things like barn raisings where an entire community comes together to accomplish something that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. With that said there are many ways this concept could be painted and we would love to see any ideas anyone came up with. From flocks of birds and schools of fish, to manufacturing cars or a space shuttle. Having a large group organized and unified can make lighter work, more efficient and effective solutions, and a greater ability to do more.
Let’s see your ideas.
